History of Evenwood
Evenwood lies to the southwest of West Auckland. The earliest remains in the area date to the Mesolithic. A number of small flint tools of this date have been discovered. The population at this time lived entirely by hunting wild birds and animals and collecting wild plants.
Thankfully Evenwood has developed since then, it is now a charming village. With its friendly local people Evenwood is truely a place to be yourself. It has a park for the children and the village hall provides daily activities for its inhabitants.
The Raby Castle is just a stones throw away from Evenwood, just 2 miles. This beautiful castle, built in the 11th century has stood the tests of time and weather, and surely it will be around for a lot longer. Many people who visit Evenwood go to visit The Raby Castle because of its beauty and because of the historical importance. Also in December many of the local people go to the Raby Castle to buy their Christmas tree.
