History of Morpeth
The town of Morpeth is Northumberlands main town. It has brilliant shopping facilities, historical buildings, great accommodation and a market which has been going for 800 years this year. Morpeth is only 20 minutes from the Metro Centre shopping complex in Gateshead adn the regional capital Newcastle-upon-tyne, which is also very popular with shoppers and has a reputation for superb nightlife.
Much of the old Morpeth remains and can be witnessed by an exciting town trail. The Chantry which was built in the 13th century has been restored and is now the home of the Bagpipe Museum, Tourist Information Centre and the Northumbrian Craft Centre. This brings new and old together. Morpeth will remain as it always has - a great market town with sensational character
