History of Seahouses
Seahouses is a large fishing town on the North east coast and is very popular with holiday makers, especially caravan holidays. There is plenty to do, Seahouses has everything from a gentle stroll down the beach or a game of crazy golf. In the main street there are plenty of fish and chip shops, which all offer a great british traditional dish.
Holy Island is only a 25 min away by car. Locally the island is rarely referred to by its Anglo-Saxon name of 'Lindisfarne'. Following on from the murderous and bloodthirsty attack on the monestary by the Vikings in 793AD, it obtained its local name from the observations made by the Durham monks: 'Lindisfarne - baptised in the blood of so many good men - truly a 'Holy Island'. Its more appropriate title is 'The Holy Island of Lindisfarne'. which is what locals and tourist prefer to call it. This island offer so mush history and can tell so many stories. Its is advised to schedule a whole day for a visit to Holy Island.
